The Amazon eBook Experience
I did quite a bit of research prior to publishing this first novel. Since my marketing budget is basically zero, I figured I would have to do all of the editing and set up on my own. There are countless programs out there to do this, but the easiest way for me was to do it all directly on the Kindle Direct Publishing site. I was able to download all of the necessary templates and apply them to my word document fairly easily. Keep in mind, I am not a computer whiz. This process should be very simple for the less than average computer user.
Now that the book has been set loose on the world, my problem is getting it noticed. I have put the book up for free for a few days to try to get some reviews. Not as easy to get people to download for free as I thought! I figured I could get a few hundred fairly easily. So far, after a day and a half, I am at 12 downloads......not very inspiring.
In parallel, I am also making my book available through Amazon as a print on demand paperback. Once again the templates on KDP were easy to use. I would have liked to have had more options with respect to the back cover design, but maybe I can figure that out if I ever do another book. The one issue is that Amazon will not send author's proof copies of books to Canada. No big deal, I will just have a copy sent to a Kinek shop down in the USA and drive down one day on the weekend to pick it up. I can't wait to see my first book in print.
I am off to do some research as to how to increase visibility of my ebook.
